I have recently finished reading the book title Stay Hungry
Stay Foolish by Rashmi Bansal. The book is all about entrepreneurship and
focuses on the management graduates from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad
(IIMA) who gave up their fat pay cheques to start something of their own. The
book is not recently published. In fact, it was published in 2008, and I bought
it in 2009. Somehow, it was hiding in the bookshelf under the dust.
Each story in the book focuses on one entrepreneur and talks
about the journey in brief. Though most stories look similar as you go through it,
each business had a different start and a different idea. It covers how it’s all
started, challenges faced, funding troubles, redundancies and the success.
These are not biographies or a detailed descriptions of what happened on the ground.
I found the stories indeed very inspiring. It is interesting
to note how information technology played a catalytic role and in some cases
drove the business models. For few cases, the business model changed completely
from what was initially planned and projected due to changing scenarios like
technology advancement or competition or a completely new opportunity. You can’t
plan everything and you have to adapt fast to the changes in business scenarios
to be a differentiator. However, it is easy said than done.
In summary, I think it’s a good read. A story a day will be
good. Enjoy reading!!
